Remembering Duane Jarvis

April 5th, 2009

I’m very sad about our friend Duane Jarvis, who died of colon cancer last Wednesday. We have fond memories of him staying at our place in Brooklyn, and the shows he played in New York and Europe. Click here for more info on donations. The LA Times and The Tennessean wrote eloquent obituaries.

I’m glad we were at least on the West Coast when he was still enjoying the Pacific Ocean from his room in Marina del Rey last week; I’ve posted some ocean pix on Flickr that I took there in his memory.

Obama & Facebook

February 21st, 2009

I was none too happy to discover that I needed to get fingerprinted and photographed upon arrival in the US from the Rotterdam and Berlin film festivals. I was singled out from the US Citizens queue by a harpy with a booming voice and sent to a special line for green card holders. In my experience, the mood at customs is very dependent on instructions from the White House. A few years ago, they suddenly got a lot friendlier than when the Iraq war broke out. Now I’m being yelled at again, and fingerprinted for the Nth time. They didn’t even say ‘Welcome home’, which always gives me a nice warm fuzzy feeling. Obama has already signed off on visa restrictions for foreign workers. I don’t like the way this is going.

Now that I’m on Facebook, I’ll be updating this site less frequently. If you’d like to know what I’m up to, please drop by on FB.

Hungry Ghosts and Higher Force: Rotterdam-Berlin

February 21st, 2009

Funny how life goes. One day I see “Life on Mars” being shot around the corner, with Michael Imperioli and Harvey Keitel in cool 70’s gear. Suddenly I’m doing the publicity for Michael’s directing debut “The Hungry Ghosts“, which was the opening night film in Rotterdam. I’ve also had the pleasure of repping “The Higher Force” by Icelandic director Olaf de Fleur Johannesson in Rotterdam and Berlin, in which Michael plays a small role.
